This is the only area of London, located right on both banks of the River Thames. There are more parks in Richmond than in any other region of the English capital. The second largest of London's Royal parks is the Richmond Park. It was founded by Charles I in the 17th century, but has changed a little over the past century, though surrounded on all sides by residential areas. Gardens, hills, fields abound with wildlife. There are over 130 thousand trees in the Park. The age of some oaks is greater than 750 years. It is a home for over 600 deer. There are about 60 species of breeding birds. Beautiful views of Central London are opened from hills in this park.
