A lot of things are connected with the name of the Roman emperor Tiberius in Capri: here, fearing for his life, he ordered twelve villas to be erected. His plan was that no one would know where he would spend the next night. The most famous villa is the Villa Jovis, hidden from prying eyes by pine trees growing on top. It is the one where the emperor spent the last years of his life. According to archeologists, the villa covered the area of more than 7,000 square meters and consisted of endless mazes and corridors, multiple passages and rooms.
