An enormous shipyard, “a city within a city,” a source of fame and pride for the Venetian Republic, is the Arsenal. Built in 1104, it was intended for colossal production volumes at that time - simultaneous construction of 20-meter galleys. The high castellated walls from red brick enclosing the Arsenal resemble the Kremlin walls built by the architect Peter Fryazin, born Italian Pietro Antonio Solari.
