The town of Taurano is located in the province of Avellino, on the western slope of Mount Cresta. Its population is little more than 1,500 people. Its name comes from Latin “Taurius”, which is translated as “a calf”, though the basis of its economy is agriculture – people grow hazelnuts here. Taurano is also famous for its crafts: excellent embroideries and forged-metal products. In the time of ancient Rome, Taurano was a mountainous resort, which is evidenced by ruins of rich country villas that have survived here.
