Palazzo Grassi is one of the “youngest” palaces of Venice. It was built in the 18th century for the Grassi family. In the mid-20th century, exhibitions became the main specialty of the palazzo. In 1951, the International Center for Arts and Costume was launched there. In 1983, after it was purchased by FIAT, an automobile company, the palazzo was transformed into a modern exhibition gallery. The owner’s son Francois-Henri Pinault met the actress Salma Hayek at one of the exhibitions held there. They held their wedding there, too.
